The piece I am proposing here would be on the wall of an academic building, preferably the library. I should win this, because the art is simple, but the idea is complex and full of a metaphorical meaning. It is a winner because it interacts with the structure of the building. The idea with this piece is that students are climbing ladders on their path to greatness. There is much adversity to overcome in academics and it is a difficult climb. But, at the top is your degree, and the rest of your life waiting for you. In studying the other art collections, especially the UCSD art collection, it seemed as if the art in which academia was shown were the most popular. They were done by students and are shown before students, so it does make sense. It would be perfect on the wall of the library because learning is the ultimate purpose of the library itself. This piece helps students to get a physical and visual understanding of their purpose at school and the struggles they have to overcome in order to succeed mentally. When I first saw this wall, that is what I thought of. It almost seems as an opportunity to climb, or to jump from window to window. So I decided to make that a reality by adding silhouettes climbing ladders to greatness.

Nice positive message, and the imagery does a good job of communicating that. The color palette used also adds visual interest to an otherwise dull concrete building. Great use of the building's size too.

That looks like quite a climb. From the looks of it, it may seem a tad risky but certainly not impossible. Very nice work there.

I love the colored images of the men climbing the ladders! It reminds me of the game "shoots and ladders" and also sends a nice message to keep climbing the "educational ladder" if you will.
