Geckos in the Courtyard -Walker Anderson
This is my proposal for the Mesa College Mural Art Project. There is no deep philosophical meaning to the image. It is only intended to be fun. My original idea called for brightly colored Geckos crawling up the sidewalk. However, the pavement reminded me of sandstone so it led me to a more aboriginal style that I had not envisioned. Hopefully the more subdued colors and the white inner glow will remind the viewer of native rock art from the American Southwest or perhaps Australia. I suppose since Mesa College is located in the American Southwest the theme is appropriate. Perhaps I was subliminally influenced by Alexis Smith's Snake path at UCSD as I have walked that path dozens of times.

I use to breed lizards so this just made my day. It really looks like it is there. I swear I have seen something like this in Hawaii.

Love the darker and more subdued colors you chose - this is one of those murals where if you aren't paying attention you might not realize that you're stepping on a Gecko :) I like that it is very playful and draws you in.

Images on the ground are always fun as you walk around. I like the geckos. Perhaps they should appear smaller as they are farther away though.

ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the snake path too! One of my favorite pieces of art on the campus...though I am not as big of a fan of walking up that hill...

Colors seem to blend in quite well as if the mural was made completely out of chalk. My sister has a gecko.
